Foresight is the ability to see ahead. Innovation is the ability
to develop new solutions and deploy new ideas. And Strategy is the
ability to create practical paths to reach desired goals. These
are the three key elements we all (Muslims, Buddhists, Christians
and other faith in Ladakh) must use to create the future of Ladakh.
The above Thanka displayed in the Munshiaziz Bhatt's Museum in Kargil
is a Symbol of Communal Harmony in Ladakh. |

Leaders establish the vision for
the future and set the strategy for getting there; they cause change.
They motivate and inspire others to go in the right direction, are
we going in the right direction? And they, along with everyone else,
sacrifice to get there... Are we willing to sacrifice? What type
of future we are leaving for coming gereneration...? How you are
going to make a contribution? |

She founded the Ladakh Project
in 1978 as a way of countering destructive trends. As an alternative
to conventional development, the project has encouraged a path
based on Ladakh's own values and its human-scale economy. In recent
years the Ladakh Project - now called the International Society
for Ecology and Culture (ISEC) - has expanded its focus and works
in both the North and South to encourage more decentralised land-based
ways of living. Her most popular book “Ancient Futures”
a study of what happens when modern development encroaches on
a harmonious age old culture.

Balti
Language (Balti Skad)
Cultural exchange between Ladakh and Baltiyul is
of the utmost importance in the prevailing circumstances, as Balti
language and culture is surviving on artificial respiration. In
conclusion, it is up to those in Baltiyul who have some command
of the Balti language and script, to focus on teaching the language
and on making sure that its survival is ensured.

Inter-Community
Relations in Leh, Ladakh
Much has been written about the history of Buddhism
in Ladakh. On the other hand, little literature is available about
Ladakh’s various non-Buddhist communities. Likewise, the complex
history and nature of inter-community relations in Ladakh still
remains neglected and little-known.

Siachen's

Furthermore, unless the Siachen non-papers do not
contain a pragmatic road map to take into account aspirations and

not make the mistake of inviting the 'curse of the innocent' again

Democracy
in Ladakh marginalized women
The life of a community begins to end the day its people become
silent about things that matter. I am simply trying to break the
silence because every time neither the silence is gold nor the speech
is silver. Let the echo of the breaking of the silence be reached
to the hills and valleys of Ladakh. The surface of the Ladakh is
covered with a thin gray layer of democratic fabric.

The
Untouchability in Ladakh
The sugar coated perspective of Ladakh need to be broken if we really
want to know the different aspects of Ladakh. Unless we know the
whole truth we have many prejudices, and to know the whole truth
we need to unlearn many things which have conditioned our mind to
be stereotype and judgmental.

Baltistan
calling for freedom & democracy The
people of Baltistan strongly desire to preserve the indigenous culture
and language. In this regard, the majority of the local people desire
re-unification with Ladakh. They wish to live in a pluralistic and
democratic society, as enjoyed by Indian Ladakhis. This will not
be possible as long as Pakistan occupies Baltistan. Local political
parties and leaders demand that Pakistan withdraw its troops from
the region. Further, a genuine local leadership must be given a
chance in the official capacity to represent Baltistan during talks
to resolve the Kashmir issue. By: Sengge Hussnan

Compassionate
Development
In a democratic system people should actively participate in the
over all functioning of the government it can only be possible if
we empower all the citizen of the nation. All Indians irrespective
of differences can only be empowered all of them. Empowerment of
all Indians is only possible if the fundamental principle of our
development is based on compassion. The seed of sustainable and
equitable development lies in compassion.

the Rupshupa nomadic pastoralists of Ladakh, weaving is
a sacred activity. The craft of weaving, they believe, was bestowed
upon them by the gods and all feats related to it have a connection
to the sublime. Weaving is a tradition dear to the Rupshupa of Ladakh.
But the craft is at the crossroads because many youngsters are leaving
in search of a better lifestyle, says Monisha Ahmed.

is not the case, and, on the contrary, diversity is the chief characteristic
of this little-known region.
