Pinto Narboo hails President Musharraf’s proposals on Kashmir

Islamabad, March 16: Member of so-called Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ladakh, Indian administrated Kashmir, Pinto Narboo has hailed the proposals by President Pervez Musharraf for the resolution of the decades-old Kashmir problem.

He said a swift reduction in the deployment of troops in Kashmir was imperative.

Troops deployment in disputed territory (Kashmir), he said should be reduced and people-to-people contacts should be strengthened.

He said reduction of troops in Kashmir would encourage an open environment and would further cement confidence-building measures between Pakistan and India.

The MLA urged both India and Pakistan to strengthen confidence-building measures to support the dialogue process.

“India does not enjoy strong economy like USA. A lot of money is being spent on army deployment in disputed Kashmir. The resolution of Kashmir would simultaneously bring peace and prosperity to India as well as Pakistan.

There is a dire need for both the countries to reciprocate on the efforts of resolving Kashmir,” he said.
